TRINITY CONTINUUM: AEON RPG

Created by Onyx Path - Trinity Continuum: Æon

The Trinity Continuum is a vast timeline of adventure, speckled with dramatic points across the past, present, and future, where heroes - or villains - arise. While each setting supplement will explore part of the Trinity Continuum timeline, these points in time aren't dots in a straight line - this isn't a long-form metaplot to be simply read aloud. Instead, they're points of quantum probabilities. Anything can happen, so it's up to you and your cast to make it happen!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

May 2018 Update
about 6 years ago – Wed, Apr 25, 2018 at 09:38:32 PM

Hello Continuum Community,

Yes, it's still April. Yes, this is the May update. It's coming a little early, but feel free to re-read it again in 6 days to make it more official. :)

Short Update: LOTS of stuff going on in the Trinity Continuum, but mostly things that will pay off in the future. Foundations have been built for things to come, and now attention can move back to the present and we'll get this machine running. So, stay tuned, more updates likely later this month (well, May... the real May... later in May).

Long Update:

Back in the middle of March, just a few weeks after the Trinity Continuum kickstarter campaign ended, I attended Breakout Con in Toronto. Despite throwing e-mails and memes back and forth, this was the first time that I met Ian A.A. Watson in person! We were both still pretty exuberant from the success of the campaign and grabbed a bite to eat.

As you know, Ian was the main, LONG time driving forces behind the rebirth of the Trinity Universe, and it was great to see how energized he was by the Kickstarter and how excited he was about the future of the Trinity Continuum. As we talked about the project, knowing how long he had been working on it, I expressed my sympathy for what I assumed would be another few years before the next major phase, Aberrant, would be realized.

"I wouldn't be so sure of that!" That's when Ian told me that movement was already happening on Aberrant, and that soon Steve Kenson would be announced as the Lead Designer for the project. I was stunned, and super-happy. I may have clapped. Not only was the project moving along at a much faster pace than I had assumed, but Steve was possibly my number one dream choice to have work on the project. He's pretty much the expert on superhero RPGS, having had a hand in ... well, just about every one that I could think of.

And now that I see Aberrant 2nd Edition appear on the Onyx Path project development track, and see Ian's excitement about the team they've assembled for this project, I'm so eagerfor the future.

In related excitement, looking at the project development track, you will also see the Æon Æxpansion and In Media Res supplements on the list. So rewarding to see everything moving forward.

The flip side to all that news: locking things down and getting those projects moving has kept everyone pretty busy, so I might be a few weeks later than I had hoped in getting some of the initial rewards out. Don't fret - I'm on it, and expect a few updates over the next weeks full of Trinity Continuum goodness. (Or, at least, a link to the redbubble store and hopefully some PDF bundles).

SO: Your patience is appreciated. Honestly, the work done now (on all projects mentioned) will have huge payouts in the future.

Total aside - Ian also showed me a ton of original illustrations from original Trinity/Æon books. Like, originals back in the drawing on paper days. It was awesome to flip through those images and hold what I can only describe as an artifact. I flipped through the pages quickly, taking them all in - I knew that if I had gone slow, I would have been tempted to grab it and run. Really.

Kickstarter Concierge

As the Onyx Path Kickstarter Concierge, I'd also like to take a moment to let you know we're in the final 24 Hour countdown for the latest project, Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought for Exalted 3rd Edition.

This campaign will be funding the creation of a deluxe, hardcover version of this book, and has already achieved 500% of the initial funding target! Unlike the Trinity Continuum project, the campaign is not intended to launch this book into traditional distribution - backing this Kickstarter project will be the only way to get the deluxe hardcover from Onyx Path. As of this morning, we've hit a whopping 30 Stretch Goals and assembled an incredible Dragon-Blooded Companion supplement as well.

If that's at all intriguing, or you just want to see what the fuss is about, you've got about 24 hours to check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/dragon-blooded-what-fire-has-wrought-for-exalted-3

April 2018 Update - Surveys on their way
about 6 years ago – Thu, Mar 29, 2018 at 09:46:15 PM

Hello Continuum Community!

I'm calling this the April 2018 update because I'd normally wait for a few more days before sending this out, but I've got so much news that I wanted to get it to your early...

At the end of each month going forward, I will send out an update with information on your Rewards, the status of the project, and any other goodies I can share with you. The next time I send out a month end Update, I will use a format that we'll follow for the remainder of the project.

For this one, I just wanted to share THREE THINGS with you (it's still Trinity, after all).

First: BackerKit Surveys

Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. It’s important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://trinity-continuum-aeon-rpg.backerkit.com/

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://trinity-continuum-aeon-rpg.backerkit.com/faq

If you have any other questions or concerns, you can post them to the comments for this update, the comment section, or contact the team via the Contact Creator link on the kickstarter page and Rich will forward it to me.

Thanks again everyone! Keep your eyes open for the next few days as the surveys go out.

SECOND: ABERRANT NEWS

For those who may have missed it, there was a recent development announced for the Trinity Continuum! On March 23rd, Onyx Path revealed the development team for the next major project on the Trinity Continuum timeline: Aberrant.

Ian A. A. Watson will continue in his role as Trinity Continuum Creative Lead, providing overall guidance and direction for the books of the Aberrant era.

Eddy Webb is taking on the role of Managing Developer, maintaining his record of excellence in directing freelancers and project management.

And we’re delighted to introduce Steve Kenson as our Lead Designer, who will help shape the new edition of Aberrant into something we’re all proud of and excited about. As designer of RPGs like Mutants & Masterminds, DC Adventures, and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying, as well as writer on RPGs like Champions, DC Universe, Marvel Super Heroes, and Silver Age Sentinels, we couldn’t resist bringing the resident expert in superhero RPGs to our team to lend his unique voice.

Steve has previously written on a number of Aberrant’s first edition titles, including Aberrant Worldwide: Phase I and the Aberrant Players Guide. We look forward to working with him!

THIRD: KICKSTARTER

The other reason I'm sending this early is that I'm currently hammering away once again as Onyx Path's Kickstarter Concierge for Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought for Exalted 3rd Edition. Each time a kickstarter project has ended, I begin receiving e-mails from fans that just missed the cut-off, or just found out about the campaign. As you know, I never seem to stop talking about kickstarter, so wanted to share this blurb with you so that no one from the Trinity Continuum misses out on this.

Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought introduces the Dragon-Blooded in 3rd Edition and all the rules necessary to feature them as player characters or NPC antagonists, including character creation rules and the element-based Dragon-Blooded Charm set of powers. This book will give an iconic view of the Dragon-Blooded, from their mythic origins as the armies of the gods to their place in the current era.

Because we made sure that the complete text for this book was finished before we ran Dragon-Blooded's KS, we can provide one quarter (more or less) of the book's text to backers each week of the campaign and get their feedback along the way. (Plus, if a backer doesn't like the text, they can cancel their pledge before the KS is over). This is the first big book for our new dev team, and judging by what we're hearing, it seems they've knocked the (fire)ball out of the park with this one!

So if that sounds interesting, please check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/dragon-blooded-what-fire-has-wrought-for-exalted-3

***

I have so many more things to talk about, but I will save some for the next update, where I may talk a bit about BackerKit. Until then, check your email for the BackerKit Survey and then check out our Pledge Manager.

Trinity Continuum Celebration
about 6 years ago – Sun, Mar 04, 2018 at 12:23:29 PM

We did it. Fantastic finish. Several Stretch goals! A mad rush at the end.

A message from Rich:

***

A long time ago, in an office far, far away.

Our White Wolf crew realized that we wanted to expand into other genres than horror. Our first foray into science fiction wasn't working out, so we sat down and began the process of creating a whole new setting. This one starting with science fiction and then moving backwards through time to super-heroes and then further to pulp. All on one continuing timeline.

It was an audacious concept and we made an excellent effort and the Trinity Universe put out a lot of books until circumstances forced WW to close it up. I never stopped wanting to resurrect the lines, and Ian Watson certainly kept in touch with his burning love for it, so when it was possible to buy Trinity from CCP as part of starting Onyx Path, I jumped at the chance. And messaged Ian as soon as the ink was dry!

Well, it is wonderfully obvious that we were not the only people still in love with Trinity, because your stunning support of this Kickstarter has enabled us to reboot the Trinity Universe into the Trinity Continuum, start the first two of the lines with Trinity Continuum Core and Trinity Continuum: Aeon, and the future looks bright!

Or maybe I should say that the Future, the past, and the sideways looks bright, because we have a lot of fantastic ideas for expanding the Trinity Continuum, and expanding these two settings you have been a huge part of helping us bring to fruition!

So thanks to you all, old fans and backers new to it all!

Final Hour: What Comes Next?
about 6 years ago – Sat, Mar 03, 2018 at 08:45:05 AM

Hello Continuum Community,

I just wanted to post a quick update to go over some of the timeline for the post-campaign process. I'm sure the Onyx Path team will be exhausted and I'm going to sleep for 48 hours straight, so it may get quiet for a bit. I just want to make sure that everyone has a sense of what's happening and when so there's no confusion or panic.

AFTER THE CAMPAIGN ENDS

First, we celebrate. Kickstarter will send out a "Hooray!" email confirming the campaign ended with final totals. We'll give high fives in the comments section.

Then, the Kickstarter payment process begins. Over the next two weeks, kickstarter will begin charging your payment methods for the total amount you've pledged.

If there is an issue with your payment method (expired credit card or incorrect number or pre-paid Visa awaiting funds, for example), Kickstarter will keep trying to process payment during this time. (That's for all the people that e-mailed to say their new card was being delivered a day after the campaign - just update your info as soon as you can and it should be fine.)

Once this step is done, which will likely be mid-March, Kickstarter will confirm everything with Onyx Path and transfer the funds over to them (less the Kickstarter fees, of course!).

Once the payment is confirmed, I can begin to set up the project with BackerKit and link it to the Kickstarter data.

Backerkit is a robust fulfillment management program that will allow us to work with all of the data and distribute the rewards to you. It will take me around a week to set the project up. Once I've got it all entered and built, the team from BackerKit will review to ensure I didn't mess anything up too badly, and then I'll make any changes they've suggested and we can move on to the Survey stage.

BACKERKIT SURVEYS

Once BackerKit says I'm good to go, I will send out a survey to all backers. This is why confirming your e-mail is important! The survey will list the reward tier you've chosen, confirm all of the rewards associated with that reward tier, and confirm your total pledge amount. I expect Surveys to go out 3-4 weeks into March.

If you opted to include any Add-On rewards to your pledge, this is the point where you will select them. BackerKit will deduct the cost of your reward tier (+shipping) from your total pledge and show you how much you have to allocate for add-on purchases. You simply select the ones you want and proceed. From that point forward, those add-ons will be included in your list of rewards.

During the Survey period, you can also also choose to increase your reward tier. If you've managed to get a tax refund and decide it's time to trade up to get two copies of the book or include another add-on, you can do so at this time. Note, you will not be able to reduce your reward tier selection, only increase.

If there was an issue with payment to Kickstarter, you should also be able to address that at this point.

The survey will ask you to confirm your shipping address, even though it'll be some time before we ship out the final product. Do not worry about moving before shipping begins - you will be able to update BackerKit right up until the point that we begin fulfilling the final books. We will send out a notice prior to lock down so you can update any information.

REWARD DISTRIBUTION

Once we've got the majority of the surveys confirmed, I will be able to begin some of the digital reward fulfillment - primarily the First Edition Fan 1E PDF Bundle. I'm targeting mid-May to June for this (assuming surveys are mostly complete).

After that, we begin the process of building the Trinity Continuum Core rulebook, the Trinity Continuum: Æon setting, and begin work on the other items added during this campaign (In Media Res, the Æon Æxpansion, etc.)

This is a long process, but I will send out regular updates (usually at the beginning of the month) to keep you up to speed on our progress. There will be strings of updates that are just "still working on it," but I will share new artwork or information when I can.

Eventually, we will have a completed PDF of the core book and setting book. We'll take some time to distribute, review, and compile any errata or corrections that need to be made. When we've made any necessary changes, we'll send out updated copy of the PDFs and then begin creating print-ready files for the hardcovers, and then eventually the PoD versions.

It's a long road ahead, but one that we wouldn't be on if not for your support.

THANK YOU

So, thank you to all the backers who supported us and made this happen.

And a personal thanks to everyone who participated online, either in the comments section of the kickstarter or on social media around the web. If you look at the number of comments, especially broken out by day, there was a ton of engagement and interest throughout this campaign.

COMMUNICATION

So, as noted, I'll be sending out updates once a month and whenever we've got a new goal, survey, or other item to cover.

If you have any questions or need clarification on something related to the kickstarter, you can leave it in the comment section - I will be notified with every addition. Or, you can find the Contact Creator button and Rich will forward your message to me.

For rules stuff and questions about the game itself, it's probably best to visit the Onyx Path forums and talk directly with the team there: http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/main-category/main-forum/trinity

So, thanks again everyone! Let's celebrate!

HOPE. SACRIFICE. UNITY.
