TRINITY CONTINUUM: AEON RPG

Created by Onyx Path - Trinity Continuum: Æon

The Trinity Continuum is a vast timeline of adventure, speckled with dramatic points across the past, present, and future, where heroes - or villains - arise. While each setting supplement will explore part of the Trinity Continuum timeline, these points in time aren't dots in a straight line - this isn't a long-form metaplot to be simply read aloud. Instead, they're points of quantum probabilities. Anything can happen, so it's up to you and your cast to make it happen!

3rd Day, 3rd Stretch Goal Achievement!
about 6 years ago – Thu, Feb 01, 2018 at 04:54:07 PM

Hello Backers!

Well, here we are on the third day, with another Stretch Goal Achievement!

Here are our three stripes so far -

One of the discussions the Onyx Path team had when preparing to unveil the new contemporary setting for the Trinity Continuum Core book - the need for examples of what kind of stories and adventures you could tell in this world so like our own, but a little different. And now, the PDF scenario supplement titled In Media Res will do just that. The first scenario will be: CAPER, INCORPORATED – When the system doesn’t work, these con artists put their thumbs on the scales of justice to even things out. Inspired by: Leverage, Ocean’s 11, Inception. Related Allegiance: Les Fantômes. This will be a [BONUS REWARD] automatically added to the list for everyone receiving that reward.

Three goals in three days - the FIRST three days - is an awesome achievement!

Our next two goals hit before and after we cross another milestone - $100,000 - or 200% of our funding target!

And to celebrate hitting 200% funding, we're going to take a momentary break from what will be our regular format of three stretch goals (for the 1E Bundle, ÆON ÆXPANSION, and Bonus Rewards) and add in one general reward that'll give an opportunity for all backers to show off their support in style! An Onyx Path tradition:

If we manage to raise $105,000, we'll create a Kickstarter Backer T-shirt and make it available at our redbubble store for a limited time!

Once we get past those 200% celebration, we'll get back on track with another ÆON ÆXPANSION reward dealing with Aberrants and Aberrant Cults! Stay tuned!

Fantastic job, everyone! Let's keep the momentum going - keep sharing your support on social media, and keep participating in the message board discussions. Every bit helps!

Tomorrow morning, we'll have another manuscript preview for Trinity Continuum Core!

Brief History of the Continuum
about 6 years ago – Wed, Jan 31, 2018 at 05:17:10 AM

Hello backers!

Welcome to Day 2 of our Kickstarter Campaign. It's off to an amazing start. Now that we've got the project launched, I thought it would be fun to get a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes activities that got us here. Fortunately, Trinity Continuum developer Ian Watson is able to fill in some details. Take it away, Ian:

***

Hello, heroes!

I've been asked to delve a bit into the history of the Trinity Continuum project from my perspective. It might be longer (and more convoluted) than you expect!

The Trinity Universe originally ran from 1997 to 2001 in its Storyteller incarnation, and then came back briefly in 2004 for a d20 edition. I'd always been fairly involved in the fandom, and around 2003 I started working on a fan project: the Trinity Storytellers Handbook. Got some other fans to write on it, like Stew Wilson, who later became writers or developers in their own right. Unfortunately, we never finished it for various reasons, but I love the work that was done on it, and it helped inform some of what I wanted to do with the new edition.

Then in 2004, the World of Darkness was rebooted (what is now the Chronicles of Darkness), giving us a single core rulebook which other game lines would build upon. I loved that concept, and thought there was something useful to be done there. I still loved the Trinity Universe and thought there was a lot more to be done with it, and this looked like the perfect approach to that.

I briefly toyed with a simple redesign of Trinity using the CofD ruleset, and one of the original names for the game proposed by Charlie Bates, but it wasn't enough.

Around 2006, I began to envision a Trinity Universe core rulebook with all the basic rules for the game, and then I'd have three Inspired rulebooks to build off of it: Psion, Nova, and Daredevil. Just like Vampire's signature city was New Orleans, and covered in brief at the back of the book, Psion's signature era would be the Æon era, and so on.

I didn't want this to just be another fan project, so I decided to approach Rich Thomas at White Wolf and asked if I could license the property and the system to make it. I was told not to bother, because I'd just get told no, but to me that meant I had nothing to lose by asking. I was told yes.

I assembled a team to do some preliminary design work while I awaited more details from Rich. Even back then, my team included John Snead. I cleverly obfuscated the project by calling it "Newt University" (Newt U = New TU).

Unfortunately, this was when White Wolf merged with CCP, and Rich's Yes had to become a No, and the Newt U team reluctantly put the project aside. But that pitch wasn’t forgotten.

(2007 brought us the original release of Scion, so also having a game named Psion wouldn't have worked well anyway.)

Flash forward about five years to 2011, CCP's had their troubles, and the future of White Wolf's games were in question. I received a mysterious message from Rich Thomas via Twitter:

The rest is history: Some months later Rich founded Onyx Path, bought both the Trinity Universe and Scion, wound me up and set me loose. Rather than focus on the Inspired types, we agreed that focusing on the classic eras was ultimately the right direction to take, but with the addition of a new core rulebook we could also add a new modern time period to the mix. And, of course, this time around we're not limiting ourselves to just those three (or four) eras: we have all of time to play with, and multiple timelines at that. This isn't just a Universe now, but a Continuum, a vast and sprawling one just begging for us to join it in one of its many adventures.

So very excited to see Ian's thoughts and plans turned into reality... more than a decade later! There is something to be said for keeping the dream alive!

First Day Celebration - We've Earned Some Stripes!

In addition to achieving our funding target on Day 1, we've also managed to smash two stretch goals. I'll display our "stripes" - our achievement banners - on updates as we move through the project. It's a great reminder on how much we've accomplished together - and we're just getting started.

  HOPE-SACRIFICE-UNITY

Let's keep the dream alive. Here's to a great Day 2!
